Give your plants secret identities

This is a cute idea for potted herb gardens, and is especially fun if you have kids!

Here’s what to do:

Step 1: Clean the outside of the pot and apply a primer.

If you don’t want to paint it or are unable to, then follow the next steps on paper and tape it to the pot instead.

Step 2: Paint a normal shirt on one side of the pot.

Perhaps your basil is a businessman with a suit jacket and watch, or maybe your lavender wears sweater vests.

Step 3: Paint a superhero or supervillain costume on the other side of the pot.

You can use an existing superhero or come up with your own.

Step 4: Rotate the pots so the plants change into or out of their secret identities.

Not only does this let you admire your work, it also ensures that both sides of your plant are getting enough light.

Build a fairy kitchen or restaurant

Fairy gardens are popular and versatile and fit into practically any garden. Something you may not have thought of is theming your fairy garden to match your plants. Herbs are primarily used for cooking, so a fairy kitchen or restaurant fits perfectly. If you grow medicinal herbs, a fairy hospital might be a better fit.

Since fairy restaurants aren’t the most common fairy garden theme, look for dollhouse supplies or similar children’s toys instead. You can even add tiny dollhouse plants, so your fairies have a garden of their own!

Stage a garden mystery

This idea is a little more interactive, making it perfect as a party game or activity. Here are the basic steps:

Step 1: Plan your mystery.

This can be as simple as "the rosemary stole the garden gnome," but you’re only limited by your imagination!

Step 2: Place the target of the mystery.

This is the object that goes missing, and it can be any object, decoration, or even a fake potted plant.

Step 3: Take a picture of the target in the garden or make sure guests see it before the mystery begins.

Step 4: Remove the target and hide it somewhere.

Step 5: Plant evidence around the garden.

This could be the tipped-over pot the fake plant was in, a bit of soil smudged where it shouldn’t be, some scattered leaves, or whatever else makes sense for your mystery.

Step 6: Invite your guests to investigate!

If you aren’t able to have guests, you can post photos online and invite your friends or followers to solve the mystery remotely.
